A Healthy and Stable Economy for a City that is on the Rise

Bottrop as a place to do business has a very attractive location on the fringes of one of Europe's largest economic clusters. The city's economic structure is extremely diverse and mainly made up of SMEs, with one out of two people working in the service sector industry. While mining still plays an important role, its significance for the Bottrop economy is slowly declining.

Approximately half of Bottrop's 30,000 employees work in the service sector industry. Nonetheless, to this day, 4,900 people work in the coal mining and processing industry.

During the 1960s many small and medium-sized companies and retail businesses, mainly from the chemical, metal, and food industry, established themselves in Bottrop.

All of these businesses, as well as Movie Park Germany, the Alpine Centre and many others, benefit from the excellent infrastructure. What is most important - this has led to the creation of hundreds of new jobs.

Bottrop's diversified economy consists of 51 industrial enterprises, 737 trade companies, and 4,930 other business. They provide the necessary stability for our city and add to its attractiveness.
